Last night, the government set out the next steps in England’s COVID-19 response to ending the lockdown.
I am writing to you to outline the key points from this plan and what it means to schools and education.
Ever since Kingsfield Primary School closed on Monday 23rd March, we have been working on a plan to ensure that when we start to re-open it will be within a safe environment for pupils and staff.
The government’s plan is for a phased reopening of primary schools. The plan is for pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 to return first on Monday 1st June, after half term. This return will be based on the latest scientific and medical advice and the government can change this plan.
The government is still to announce when it is planned for other year groups to return. Please be assured that pupils who are home schooling will continue to receive the same level of support as those who are in school.
I look forward to seeing our children return to Kingsfield and we will now ensure everything is ready and safe.
For the remainder of this month pupils will stay at home for classes, unless their parents are classified as ‘key workers’.
Once more, I’d like to thank you all for the positive manner you have approached home schooling since we closed. I absolutely understand how difficult home learning can be but with your support and enthusiasm the pupils of Kingsfield Primary School continue to shine and make progress.
Further details on the government’s plan to re-open schools will be revealed this week and I will continue to keep you all updated.
I appreciate that this is a difficult time for everybody. The staff and I at Kingsfield Primary School appreciate your continued support for the school.
Please get in touch with the school on 01354 692323 if you need to discuss anything.
Overnight the Government has released its very broad definitions of Key Workers. The link can be found here and the definitions below:
